Genealogies may not feel like riveting reading material, but they hold significance and tell a story. Matthew's Gospel opens with Jesus's genealogy providing connective tissue to King David and Abraham. Jesus in his humanity had a family line that held both unsavory stories and carried the great promise of a coming Redeemer. When we read it we see that Jesus is truly the Messiah.
